HACK FAQ
Encounters
Q:
What happens when I play Eenie or Meenie while the other is in the discard
pile?
A:
Shuffle your discard pile back into your deck, get the formerly discarded
twin from your newly shuffled deck and play him.
Q: Can the GM play an Encounter
face down at the Exit? How about the Entrance?
A: Exit: yes. Entrance: no.
Q: When do I redraw after playing
an Encounter on my buddy?
A: Once you play an Encounter,
there's a "freeze" on drawing new cards until the Encounter is resolved.
Once the acting character has either died, or defeated the Encounter, everyone
gets to redraw any cards they played since the Encounter was played.
Q: When does B.A. redraw to replace
Encounters he plays face down?
A: Immediately.
Events
Q: When you get one
of those "cursed items," such as Pink Legwarmers of Speed, do they count
as an Item? Can you discard one of them when you die and have it count
as your discarded Item?
A:No. They're just
Events that hang around. They go away the next time you die and
you must discard an Item as normal.
Q: When B.A. gets one of those "cursed
item" Events, when does he get rid of it?
A: When someone defeats one of
his Encounters.
Q: What happens when Sara plays
Peruvian Dice-Jinx against Brian while he's got Dice Cleansing out?
A: Just to clarify, PDJ makes your
next roll a 1. Dice Cleansing says all your one's count as 2's. In the
above situation, Sara's Event would make Brian's roll a 1, and his Rule
would make that 1 a 2.
Items
Q: Do bonuses from Items stack?
Is it my imagination, or can Brian get his stats up awfully high?
A: Yes, they stack and no, it's
not your imagination. Brian's a wily dude. The real problem is the Cheating
Rule. Got to watch that guy like a hawk!
Q: The Hand of Vectra says you only
discard it as a result of trying to win with it. Does this mean I *can't*
discard it otherwise?
A: No, you can chose to discard
it. If you've only got one Item in play -- the Hand -- and you die, you
can opt not to lose the Hand. If you've got two in play -- the Hand and
something else -- you may choose to lose the Hand to preserve that other
Item. It's up to you.
Q: What about Bob's soul?
A: Same deal. If it's the only
Item you've got, you don't have to discard it . . . but you may discard
it if you want to keep some other Item you've got when you die.
Rules
Q: I have the Gamer Temp out. An
Encounter kills me. I reroll at -1 and now I've tied the Encounter total.
What happens?
A: You both reroll. You reroll
at no penalty. If you lose this reroll you do not get to roll again at
-1, the Gamer Temp only works once per Encounter.
Q: How does Diceless Rules affect
Brian?
A: Diceless Rules affect the other
players when facing Encounters. Thus it doesn't affect Brian at all (he's
not one of the other players) and it doesn't affect anyone when they *play*
an Encounter.
If Dave played a Monster on Bob, Dave still rolls 1d6 and adds the
Monster's Difficulty. Bob, since he's facing the Encounter, doesn't roll
at all. He just hopes desperately that his normal stat (with modifiers)
is enough.
Searching
Q: Can you Search when you move
to the Entrance?
A: No. I know it uses the Entrance
as an example under Searching, but that's an error on our part. No searching
at the Entrance, no encounters at the Entrance.
Q: If I choose not to search when
I enter a room, does that mean no-one can play Encounters on me?
A: No. You can search or not, that's
up to you. Your opponents can play Encounters on you or not, that's up
to them. The two things aren't related. Here's how it works.
1) Move into a room as an action.
2) Decide to search the room, or not.
3) After you've searched (or not), the player to your left (or
to his left, if he passes, etc.) may play an Encounter.
This is one sequence from one action. Move, search, encounter.
Misc
Q: Is the Inner Chamber of Vectra
unique like the Entrance? What about the Hand?
A: Neither are unique. You can
have multiples of each in play.
Q: Some Encounters and Events let
you break the One Encounter Per Movement Rule. When does the acting player
get to play his Items?
A: The current player gets to play
one Item after each Encounter. If he has the right cards, he can actually
get tougher as the battle royale plays out. Then again, the player dropping
the Encounters can stop anytime, no?
Q: Does B.A. get credit for a "kill"
if the death is prevented somehow, like with a Robe of Cushioning Item?
A: Nope, he only gets credit for
"kills" that stay kills. Pesky PCs and their tricks.
