  * 2 points in general mechanic, a 3rd, specialized point in Forensic Mechanics, determing causes of crashes and various mechanical failures. Note to point effectiveness folks: Yes, 1/5 is legal and far more efficient than 2/3 but I don't see her as being THAT expert in this field.

Tara grew up in a small Armenian enclave in New York City. Her father George was an independant insurance broker up until she was in high school, when his firm was hit with an enormous amount of fraudulant injury claims, and given the economics of the time, he had little choice but to close shop and go to work for one of the bigger insurance companies. He took a fairly notable pay cut in the process, and loss of the independence he'd had running his own company combined with a new boss he couldn't stand led to an argument with said supervisor that got him fired.

After a string of jobs that didn't work out, he resorted to driving a taxi cab. He was robbed and shot, and has been bedridden ever since. Tara blames her father's problems on his losing his own firm, and has a passionate hatred for the perpetrators of insurance fraud as a result.

Tara got an insurance job to help support the family as soon as she got out of high school. She worked for a different major insurance company. She went into the area of Fraud investigation. The people who ruined her father's business were still around and active for the most part, a few might do a few years in prison if they got caught, most moved around and changed names of the 'medical' clinics they operated etc and it was these criminals whom she ultimately wants to bring down. She's come close enough to nailing them on occasions and at least oncet the ringleaders have tried to kill her.

Her job doesn't consist ENTIRELY of trying to break this ring, she does do other investigations. Last year, she was investigating the death of Frank Bustamante, a man who'd just taken out a $200,000 policy three months earlier, and she was looking for evidence that it was a suicide (and thus NOT covered by the policy).

She angered Bustamante's niece Diane during questioning.

Diane was 13 and already had a little mastery over her psychic abilities, thanks in part to the Cabal of Psyche finding her and arranging for her to be trained at a private school in Conneticut.. She'd been scanning Tara's mind, picked up the rather hostile undercurrent in Tara's thoughts suspecting her uncle took the policy to cheat her company and lashed out telepathically when Tara asked her a leading question.

It was not a full fledged psychic attack but it was sufficient to awaken Tara's latent psi powers and she countered instinctively with Mindrule and made the teen stop using her power.

Both of them realized what Tara had just done simultaneously. Since Diane's parents were in the room, Diane tapped her forehead, gesturing a request to speak to her telepathically. Still a bit shocked, Tara agreed. It took some effort of doing on Diane's part, but she managed to send the inexperienced Kasaraian a message "Meet me at the park after you leave."

In due course, they came to a number of understandings, including how exactly her uncle died from an accidental ingestion of his wife's medicine, and where Tara could find help in dealing with her newfound abilities.

The Graham-Kehner Institute (GKI) is a New Jersey based business and technical college about 45 minutes from Manhattan by train and lies 200 yards north of the station, across the street. It specializes in part time programs to accelerate people towards earning an MBA or other desireable degrees from a corporate perspective. Certainly it's Business classes pay the institute's way for the most part.

But the Institute is really a training facility for the Cabal, particularly in it's annex on the otherside of town. And much of it's profits also fund private schools like the one training Diane Bustamante.

Obstensibly picking up a college degree, Tara has been getting training in her powers at the annex. The annex includes some athletic facilities, mostly unused by the business students due to the nature of part timeclass schedules and full time work schedules as well as the inconvenience of driving to the annex. The Psi students on the other hand make good use of those facilities, in keeping with the Psi Faculty's adherence to Grecian Body & Mind philosophies.

Tara is actually becoming a competent fencer. If GKI were involved in compettive sports she might well be on the team. Of course it doesn't hurt to be able to use MindSight while fencing, which is the real reason the sport is taught, to allow the students to coordinate intricate body movement with use of their power against an opponent. Tara is getting good even during training sessions where psi use isn't permitted.

Of course, there's a fly in this ointment. One of non-psi students, Ira Harris, has signed up for the fencing course and seems a bit smitten on her. While much of the course can be taught non-verbally, it's more difficult to teach the psis and not speak to them as a group (Tara isn't the only person in class with limited ability to speak telepathically).

Harris is a state police reservist, working on a Masters in computer engineering and part of a team of computer animation people working on some TV advertisements in his day job.
